Midwife Support in DubaiMidwife Support in Dubaiby Andrea Tane-Waiariki,a New Zealand registered midwife.Midwife Support in Dubai Hi there my name is Andrea. I am originally from New Zealand but have resided in Dubai for the last four years. ![]() I am a New Zealand qualified comprehensive registered nurse and a qualified New Zealand registered Midwife. I have worked in Australia in the capacity of a registered paediatric nurse, however I have spent the most part of the last 17 years as a Midwife. During my midwifery years I have spent time in all the aspects of care related to women and childbirth. A large part of this time was spent as a caseload midwife, solely caring for women and their families from the antenatal period to the 6 week postnatal period. Also during this time I became a lead practitioner and assisted with the development of bringing Midwifery care to the community, initiating and providing assessable antenatal and postnatal care for women, using satellite clinics with general practitioners. This was a highly successful initiative and is now considered a normal option of care for women. I have also spent many years both before I had my children and after, on the maternity wards. My speciality was high risk pregnancies and I cared for women with anything from hyperemesis, recurrent miscarriage to multiple pregnancy, eclampsia, and women with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, lupus, renal failure etc. I am passionate in the art of midwifery -"being with women". I believe in empowering women and their families to help them make informed choices that enable them to achieve the best balance for everyone. I believe in nature and nurture, and whilst it is natural for us all to want what is best for our children, it is also relevant and acceptable to nuture and learn what works for you and your baby. In the same way that no two pregnancies are the same, this could be said for babies as well. I am a keen advocate of breastfeeding and feel strongly about nurturing the skills mothers have to achieve this, however I also believe in choice, and provide support and encouragement regardless. ![]() I provide support, education, assistance and midwifery advice to mothers and their families in their own homes in the postnatal period, from birth to six weeks. I give hands on breastfeeding support as well as education regarding diet, sleep, baby bathing, skin care, measurements of baby's weight, etc. I also provide midwifery maternal postnatal assessments. I have accumulated information on many different informative and social support groups and agencies which I have used myself which you as an individual may find useful. It goes without saying that support before, during and after childbirth for women can be pivotal towards making their experience either good or bad. It is my objective to make the transition into parenthood a positive one, and one that sees every women empowered, encouraged and supported. I love Dubai, and I love what it has to offer myself and my family in terms of culture, opportunity, friendship and at times challenges; the rewards can be life changing. I believe in the saying "knowledge is power", and it is my mission to work in partnership with women.
