Feeling Stressed in Dubai

Sometimes, life in Dubai can be challenging even if everything is readily available and handed to you on a silver platter. It may appear on the surface as if you should be happy; your family is in good health, you live in a safe and peaceful country, your husband has a secure job, you don't have to work, you have a good home, and you have help available.

Everything seems perfect from the outside, and yet, you are unhappy on the inside and you worry about why you feel this way.

  • Maybe you feel exhausted, with the stress of the never-ending errands for the house and driving family members to their numerous activities and events.
  • Maybe you feel empty, locked in monotony, feeling as though everyday is painfully the same as the day before with the same predictability and the same tasks carried on repetitively.
  • Maybe you feel lonely, surrounded by friends and acquaintances, but not feeling connected with others.
  • Maybe you feel alone, by yourself at home during the day, without any friends.
  • Maybe you you feel resentful because you had to bury deep down your aspirations and ambitions.
  • Maybe you get angry frequently and then get angry at yourself for getting angry
  • Maybe you have been living happily until something happened and changed everything in your life.
  • Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself, as if you have lost touch with a part of yourself, and don't recognize yourself anymore.

  • The bottom-line is, you feel unhappy and you have lost meaning in life.

    These are normal feelings that any woman can experience from time to time.

    This can be brought on by:

  • big life changes
  • compound stress
  • past hurt that you are not aware of
  • negative feelings accumulated over the years that flare up quickly
  • Possible outcomes could be damage to your relationships, negative effects on your health, and a loss of your creativity and sense of purpose and meaning in life.

    Reconnecting with the Real You

    There are several things that you can do in order to reconnect with your sense of self and enjoy life.

  • Focus on the present.
  • Live in the moment rather than ruminate about the past events or worry about future events.

  • Be kind to yourself.
  • No matter what choices you made in your life, accept these and let go of the "what if's"

  • Acknowledge your feelings
  • Even though other women around the world may face more difficult hardships in their lives such as financial difficulties, illness, and death, it doesn't mean that you don't have the right to feel what you feel just because you have an easier life in Dubai.

  • Sit down, and enjoy
  • Learn to recognize and see the beauty around you in the little things in life.

  • Do something for yourself
  • Find something that you can do for yourself outside of your roles as a mother and wife. This will help you feel fulfilled and find meaning in your day.

  • You are not alone
  • There are hundreds of women who feel like this. You don't have to deal with this on your own. Reach out and talk to a trusted friend or family member or a psychologist about your challenges.

    It is only by accepting your negative feelings as they are without judgment or criticism that you can begin the real work in your life journey.
